Whispering Leaves Project
“Whispering Leaves” was the closing finale of Colac Otway Performing Arts and Cultural Centre’s (COPACC) CrossXpollinatioN textile exhibition. The theme of the exhibition was “Secrets”.
Participants were invited to contribute to the magic of the Fire Ceremony by inscribing secret wishes onto leaves that were offered to the cleansing flames during the ceremony.
Leaves for writing wishes were available in the COPACC Foyer, allowing all visitors to the venue to become part of this unique and symbolic experience.
The fire ceremony started at 5:30 pm, where attendees gathered in the COPACC Foyer. The audience was then led outside to the performance area.
The ceremony was enacted in circle using the four cardinal points as a compass around a Fire Effigy dressed with leaves and wattle flowers. The Red Priestess, and her assistant, Familiar, performed the ceremony.
The gathered leaves were placed into the Effigy and then set alight in a blaze of fire, community and celebration.
After the closing ceremony, guests stayed to enjoy the fire or ventured inside for post-performance mulled wine, hot chocolate and Turkish delight.
Whispering Leaves took place on July 13th and attracted over 200 people.
