Phoenix & The Flames Fire Ceremony
Phoenix & The Flames is a re-imagining of Phoenix Rising, first performed at WinterWild in 2017. This new incarnation features newly crafted costumes, music soundtrack, and performance narrative.
The sleeping Phoenix is carried through the crowd and placed on a platform beside the unlit Fire Effigy, dressed with aromatic spices and firewood. The Flame Dancers light the Fire Hoop, awakening the Phoenix, who dances and symbolically breathes fire into the four directional lamps.
At the peak of the performance, the Phoenix ignites the Fire Fffigy — (brazier fire pit) — symbolising hope, renewal, and the sun’s return. The ceremony closes with inviting the audience to circle and dance around the Fire in a shared moment of celebration.
